Becoming a great leader in faith is a noble ambition that many aspire to achieve. In the Christian context, being a "God General" means leading with integrity, serving others, and following the teachings of Jesus Christ. For youth, Ministers and new believers, this journey may seem daunting, but it is absolutely achievable. Through the examples of great leaders in the Bible, we can learn valuable lessons about leadership, faith, and service.

Understanding the Calling

The first step to becoming a great God General is understanding your calling(WHO YOU ARE). God has uniquely equipped each of us with gifts and talents to serve Him and others. In Romans 12:6-8, Paul states, “We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith.” This scripture illustrates the importance of recognizing your God-given abilities and using them for His glory.

Take time to pray and reflect on your skills. Are you good at teaching, interceding praying, worshipping/praising encouragement, or hospitality? Understanding your gifts is the foundation for effective service in God's kingdom.

Developing Leadership Qualities

Once you understand your calling, the next step is to cultivate leadership qualities that reflect Christ's character. Great leaders in the Bible, like Moses, David, Joseph and Nehemiah, displayed qualities such as humility, courage, and faithfulness.

Emphasizing Humility

(BE HAMBLE)

Humility is crucial for anyone aiming to lead. In Numbers 12:3, we learn that Moses was a very humble man, more humble than anyone else on the face of the earth. His humility allowed him to listen to God and the needs of the people he led. As future God Generals, it's essential to prioritize serving rather than being served.

Building Courage

Courage is another vital quality. Joshua's mission to lead the Israelites into the Promised Land required immense bravery. In Joshua 1:9, God commands him, “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” Embrace challenges as opportunities to grow and lead others toward faith.

Practicing Faithfulness

Faithfulness ensures that you remain steadfast in your purpose, even when faced with adversity. Nehemiah, who rebuilt Jerusalem’s walls, demonstrated unwavering commitment despite opposition. His faithfulness and prayerful attitude can inspire us in our journeys to lead effectively.

Serving Others

Leading as a God General often means putting the needs of others before your own. Jesus exemplified this servant leadership. In Mark 10:45, He stated, “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Serving others can take many forms, from volunteering in church activities (ministry) to helping those in need in your community. Each of these actions reflects a Christ-like spirit and helps to build strong relationships.

Building Relationships (LISTENING)

Forming meaningful relationships is integral to effective leadership. Great leaders must be approachable and willing to listen to others. Jesus often built connections with His disciples and the people He served. Consider dedicating time to listen and relate to others in your community.

Encouraging Each Others

As this is the mission of our church, encouragement can transform lives. As a God General, find ways to uplift those around you. Whether through praying, a simple compliment, a helping hand, or mentoring someone, your support can inspire others to grow in their faith.

Engaging in Continuous Growth

To be an effective leader, continual growth in your spiritual journey is essential. This journey does not happen overnight and may require consistent effort through prayer, study, and fellowship.

Seek Mentorship

Connecting with more experienced leaders can provide invaluable wisdom and guidance. Find a mentor who can walk alongside you, helping you navigate your faith journey. This relationship provides encouragement and accountability.

Living Out Your Faith

Leadership is not just about titles or positions but living out your faith daily. Great God Generals like Daniel showed unwavering faith in difficult situations. Despite threats, Daniel’s commitment to God led to being favored in a foreign land.

Influence Through Example

Your actions speak louder than the words you speak. Strive to live a life that exemplifies the teachings of Christ. Engage in your community, stand for your beliefs, and demonstrate kindness and integrity.
